Heat storage system, Riga CHP-2 plant, Latvia
Owner's Engineer Design and Studies Installation and Supply Diagnostics

We developed the preliminary design of a heat storage system integrated into Riga CHP-2 plant in Latvia. The CHP plant consists of two CCGT units and five hot-water boilers and supplies heat into the district heating system of Riga.

BFS Industry activities:

  • Optimization of the storage capacity and charging/discharging power in three variants
  • Elaboration of preliminary design
  • Calculation of expected revenues, CAPEX and OPEX

Execution date: 10/2017 - 01/2018

Technical specifications of the storage system:

  • Water volume: 17,800 m3
  • Charging/discharging power: 150 MWt
  • Capacity: 550/1000 MWh
  • Atmospheric type
  • Temperature difference 95/67 °C
  • CHP plant total electric power output: 832 MWe
  • CHP plant total heat output: 1124 MWt
